SBC Yahoo! has changed outbound relay requirements. Your SBC account, the account that you use on your computer or router to activate your DSL service, is required to have account credentials for any email account that will send, or “relay” mail through it’s outbound mail system. This means that if you have a non-static IP address and use your own domain accounts in your office or home, you will need to add every domain account under your SBC Yahoo! account to relay outbound mail through their servers.
To do this, use the following instructions.
1. Logon to your SBC Yahoo! account, or ATT.net account, at http://mail.yahoo.com.
In the classic view, click on Options at the top, far right. Then select Email Addresses under Management.
In the new format, select Options, Mail Options, then click on Addresses at the left, then Add an email account.
2. Click on Add
3. Add account name by entering account@domain.com click on next
4. Add Name and Email by entering account@domain.com in both click on next
5. Click on Skip this step
6. Click on Send Verification, that will send an email verification to your domain account
7. Click on link in email in domain account inbox
8. Click on Verify
9. Enter your SBC Yahoo! account password
You’ll need to perform steps 2 through 9 for every domain account that will send outbound mail through the DSL service.
I have also tested this procedure using my Gmail account on my Treo. I setup my Gmail account as an authorized relay account using the steps above, then set my Gmail profile on my PDA to send outbound mail through SBC Yahoo!’s mail system using my ATT.net account. It worked perfectly.
If you have an Exchange server and use dynamic DNS, you will need to set Exchange to use a Smart Host of smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com, and enter the outbound DSL credentials in the SMTP Virtual Server. These changes can be done by your IT Service Team.
